Find IP address of a network printer

Find IP address of a network printer

Many times we see that a network printer suddenly stops working and you need to find a static (private) IP address for the printer to perform an additional diagnostic. How do we find the IP address of a network printer? There are some different ways to find it.

1. A network printer with built-in Ethernet port usually provides a menu button that will allow you to display the IP address assigned to it. You can also try printing the self-test or configuration page from your printer.

2. If you can not find an IP address of a network printer in the menu screen or if your printer is connected to a printer server without a screen, you can find its address on any network computer configured to use the printer. To find the IP address of the printer from a Windows machine, do the following.

  • Start -> Printers and faxes, or Start -> Control panel -> Printers and Faxes
  • Right click on the name of the printer, and left click on Properties
  • Click on the Ports tab and expand the first column that shows the IP address of the printers
3. If your network printer uses DHCP, you can connect to your router and find the IP address of the printer on the DHCP status page. The router shows all host computers that are assigned dynamic IP addresses.
